Listing here and there more Bruckner Fifth I have to tell you something. This Bruckner Fifth by Zander and his semi-armature Boston Philharmonic is amusingly good. I just wish they release it committal that the people would know how to play Bruckner ...

I just the received the SACD of this disc and it won't play! I guess there's a problem with the TOC. Luckily, Amazon pays for return shipping!...

Somebody posted at Symphonyshare a great recording that I been enjoying for 2 days. It is Eugen Jochum leads Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. Among all the Bruckner 7 that Jochum recorded I think this is the earliest I hears and it is very very goo...

Herbert Blomstedt had a tour this past summer with the Bamberg Sinfoniker. I didn't get to hear them in the Stift Church in St. Florian, but in Würzburg in the Dom which also has a very nice "bloom". The only disadvantage was that the horns were sitt...

I was inspired by all of those conversations at the site about Celibidache and Bruckner and last night I decided to listen the Eighth from Celibidache and Münchner Philharmoniker. This is live recording of Nowak version from. I do not know the year o...

hi,I listened to the eighth tonight, it's the only version I have for the moment. it is quite magnificent at moments, i believe the over the top horns are the sound engineer fault. i am out in the SF Bay area end of week and hoping to find some good ...

Unfortunately Lenny Bernstein did nothing to advance Bruckner here and the critic Harold Schonberg kept up the verbal abuse against him for 30 years or so. Romy is correct that Bruckner requires performance familiarity. A few rehearsals won't cut it....

Christoph Eschenbach led last night BSO with the Bruckner symphony and it was somewhere between “boring” and “waste of time”. I hope the Saturday performance will be better. We had tickets for Saturday but we will be out of town, so we went for Thurs...

If you one of those who feel that playback make difference then I do not think that better playing of Bruckner music would require any different playback efforts than an y other better playback. Still, practicing “better playback” and loving t...

Jerry,
I might intellectually understand what you are saying but my personal experiences protest. The Nanut's Bruckner 8 is kind of “overly articulate without course”. When I hear Nanut I feel like a short-hair Abyssinian Cat is trying to fuzz hers...

From the beginning, I was drawn into the almost haunted look of 86 years old conductor. His facial expressions and body movements communicate the meaning of the music as much as the performance of the orchestra itself. You can also s...

John Berky, the guy who runs abruckner.com dug out, reportedly from the conductor himself, the 94/24 recordings of Eduardo Chibas 7, 8 and 9 symphonies with Orquesta Sinfonica Venezuela. http://www.abruckner.com/store/downloads/ChibasBruckner/ Th...

Then here is a new bright Brucknererian star that discovered recently: Lovro von Matacic. Did you even heard Bruckner colorful, not with zillions grades of gray and with fluctuation pressure but in full color, real color? Try the Lovro von Matacic, a...

[quote user="Romy the Cat"] I keep bugging Yoshi, he is in Japan now, to bring me a set of 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 by Takashi Asahina with Tokyo SO from 90s it should be very interesting… The damn Japanese have quite a price tag on the Asahina’s Buckner…...

It was 2 days ago – I opened my mails box and found a gift from Yoshi with a few very interesting Japanese CDs.
It was September 17, 1986. The ending his career Eugen Jochum takes Royal Concertgebouw to Japanese tour and plays in Tokyo Bruckner 7. ...

Clark, of cause you might have any copy you want but I need to warn you that it is, in my view, very far from the “greatest Eighth performances ever”. The BSO history attributes to Tennstedt the great debut with BSO in 1974. It was a good debut and B...

A few weeks back a local guy stopped by, spent a few hours listening and told me that no one play Bruckner like I do. I pitched this idea to a few visitors on mine since then and they unanimously agreed. The most important is that it is exactly how I...

Clark, as long as the d'Yquems have been well-cellared - and this is easily determined by looking at level, seepage and color - they should both be very good right now, although the 67 is the star. Most 62 Sauternes are over the hill now, but fortuna...

the box set just arrived, listened to the third symphony twice tonight. geez romy if this is bad bruckner then I would really love to hear the good stuff!very nice flow, always teling a story, superb layering of themes. crisp horns, clear woodwinds, ...

Yep, Zubin Mehta brings B8 with Israel Philharmonic in Boston in the end of the month. That will be interesting. I do not think that Israel Philharmonic will be able to play it in the way I would like to hear it but there is no such a thing as too fr...

I have recently one of those "audio visits" where
a g guy from far away lends with his morono-emblematic jazz interests spent an evening
in my listening room. As usually we play some of my recording and spin some vinyl

Attended today Bruckner 4 with Oslo Philarmonic under Petrenko. Petrenko for sure looks great but in Tchikovsky kind of level, to conduct Brucker it is a bit too early for him. Amy said that everyone need to start sometimes, perhaps she is right but ...

Here's the B7 with Esa Pekka Salonen & the Philharmonia. The filesharing site was being very strict in not allowing uploads >100MB but some careful editing means that these files can be run sequentially without interrupting any music.1st Move...
